Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is now with the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and his teammate Jack Eichel may just be available soon.

Jack Eichel is one of the best centers in the NHL right now, and he was even ranked higher than Auston Matthews on the NHL Network list.
Having said that, Eichel is going to become a free agent in the Summer of 2026, and there are some numbers being thrown around that could be problematic for the Golden Knights.
For instance, Frank Seravallie recently reported that the Leafs could end up having to pay the forward $15 million per season, which is a lot.

Toronto Maple Leafs could get revenge on Mitch Marner

Seravalli noted that the Golden Knights cannot afford to lose someone like Eichel, and that they are very likely to just pay the market price and be done with it.
I don't know how they could move on from him, but looking at their cap table it's hard to wedge in; I think what you're talking about...is a 15m+AAV deal
However, if the Golden Knights have a change of heart, then the Toronto Maple Leafs will have the perfect avenue to exact revenge on Marner.
We say that because the Leafs will be in the market for a superstar forward next summer, and with Connor McDavid likely to be off the list, Eichel would be a great fit
He could be the team's second-line center behind Auston Matthews, creating a McDavid and Leon Draisaitl situation. Moreover, the Leafs have the cap space to do this.
Stealing Eichel away from the Golden Knights would immediately put the pressure back on Mitch Marner, who would be the only superstar in Vegas.
While this is all very unlikely, there is no denying that is something the Maple Leafs should look at as the Summer of 2026 approaches.
