Las Vegas Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner is now teammates with Jack Eichel, although this may not last for long given the upcoming contract negotiations.
Jack Eichel and the Las Vegas Golden Knights have been a match made in heaven so far, and there is no doubt that the fans love him.
Of course, we still don't know what their chemistry is going to be like. In fact, it is going to be a Wild Card of sorts. Having said that, there is another Wild Card involved, and it has to do with Eichel's contract.
Jack Eichel is going to make bank with the Golden Knights
According to Frank Seravalli of Bleacher Report, Eichel is a free agent in 2026, and the Las Vegas Golden Knights cannot afford to let the forward go.
Unfortunately, his contract is going to cost upwards of $15 million per season, which is going to be a huge uphill battle, even with the salary cap going up.
I don't know how they could move on from him, but looking at their cap table it's hard to wedge in; I think what you're talking about...is a 15m+AAV deal
For former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner, this is actually going to be a huge problem, and for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, this could cut his partnership with Eichel short. If the Golden Knights cannot afford Eichel, than the center is going to go somewhere else.
Secondly, there were rumors that Marner did not enjoy making less money than
Auston Matthews. This ego play may have been a deciding factor in him leaving Toronto.
With this in mind, Marner could very well be forced into a difficult spot during his first official offseason in Las Vegas. This does not bode well, given his deal is for eight years.
