Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews spoke to the media on Saturday and talked about Team USA's emotional loss to Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off final.
While the tournament is now behind them, the experience left Matthews with mixed emotions.
Auston Matthews gives his honest reaction on the 4 Nations Face-Off
Despite a good individual performance having an assist on both of Team USA's goals and being the most dangerous player in overtime, Auston Matthews admitted the loss still hurts him.
"It's tough. It means a lot to wear that jersey and have the opportunity. You never know how many chances you get at representing your country and playing in a tournament like that. Definitely still stings. But you have flip the page."
Auston Matthews' presence is important, considering he missed a game against Sweden due to injury.
His immediate return suggests he's feeling better even if his season has been slightly below his usual standards, but with 20 goals and 45 points in 40 games, injuries have not helped his consistency.
For the Maple Leafs, the hope is that their returning players can channel their 4 Nations experience into the team's playoff push by bringing back valuable lessons to help guide Toronto toward a deep postseason run.
