Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube will forever have a place in franchise history, and it is all because of a major trade that was made in 1992.
Throughout the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs, there have been some pretty wild trades. Some have been good, while others have been awful.
In recent history, there haven't been a ton of truly amazing trades that will stand the test of time. Sure, solid moves have been made, but nothing earth-shattering.
Thanks to The Leafs Nation, fans are now reminiscing about the trades that truly changed the franchise for the better, and they are going back in time.
For instance, Maple Leafs fans just crowned the 1992
Doug Gilmour trade with the Calgary Flames as the best in the Leafs' franchise history.
Doug Gilmour to the Toronto Maple Leafs
For the Flames, this is considered their worst trade in franchise history, and it makes sense why their fans would feel that way.
Below, you can see the deal, which involved a total of 10 players, including Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube.
Toronto Maple Leafs receive:
Doug Gilmour
Jamie Macoun
Kent Manderville
Ric Nattress
Rick Wamsley
Calgary Flames receive:
Craig Berubew
Alexander Godynyuk
Gary Leeman
Michel Petit
Jeff Reese
Gilmour would play with the Leafs until 1997, and he had multiple 100-point seasons with the franchise.
Furthermore, Gilmour helped the Leafs get to two straight Conference Finals, which is something that fans will forever love him for.
Ultimately, it makes sense that this trade is so highly thought of by fans, and we can only hope that Brad Treliving gives us something similar.
