Auston Matthews Receives Major Honor from Toronto Maple Leafs Fans

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is an amazing hockey player, and when it comes to the fans, there is no denying he is immensely popular.
Auston Matthews was drafted first overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016, and the franchise hasn't looked back ever since this moment.
He has been one of the best players the franchise has ever had, and at this point, it feels as though he will go down as one of the greatest goal-scorers in NHL history.
With that being said, it only makes sense that the NHL fans would have some sort of sentimental feeling towards Matthews and what he means to the franchise.

In fact, this was proven when The Leafs Nation held a poll on the best draft pick in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Unsurprisingly, it was Auston Matthews who ultimately won the poll. This makes a whole lot of sense, considering what he has done. Oh, and the whole recency bias factor.
As for the worst draft pick in Leafs history, that honor goes to Tyler Biggs, who was selected 22nd overall all the way back in 2011.
Overall, Auston Matthews is someone who is going to be an amazing player for years to come, and there is no two ways about it.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you are probably very happy to have him on the team, and rightfully so. He is an amazing player who is getting better as a leader.
Of course, he had some ups and downs last season, but he appears to be doing much better, which is definitely great to see.
Only time will tell whether or not Matthews continues down this path, and finds himself as a Rocket Richard trophy candidate during the 2025-26 campaign.
