Last season, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews was dealing with a nagging injury, and going into next season, fans are hoping he is back to 100%.
Auston Matthews is easily one of the best players in the NHL; however, last season was a difficult one for him due to a nagging injury that wrecked his ability to score goals.
Overall, he had 33 tallies last year, which is in stark contrast to his 2023-24 numbers, where he managed a wild 69 goals. Needless to say, he struggled quite a bit.
Consequently, he needs to have his health; otherwise, he won't be able to get back to the 50-goal mark, let alone 60.
Auston Matthews briefly discusses his injury
Yesterday, Matthews participated in the Hockey Night in Brampton charity game. It was here that the captain was asked about his health and his relationship with
Mitch Marner.
Matthews acknowledged that his health is good right now. Meanwhile, he noted that Marner is absolutely going to be missed.
We'll obviously miss him. He's a great friend, great teammate. It's kind of the business side of it, that's tough. But obviously wish him the best.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you will certainly be rooting for a healthy Matthews this season. Whether or not that is what fans get remains to be seen.
If the captain is healthy, then the Leafs will likely have a season filled with lots of goals. Unfortunately, the first-line right-wing situation must be resolved.
We wish Matthews the best heading into the season, and we are hopeful for the Leafs to have a huge season.
