ECHL Hall of Famer Cam Brown has tragically passed away at the age of 56, and the outpouring of support has truly been overwhelming to see.

When people think about hockey heroes, they mostly think about guys who played in the NHL, as they are the ones on your screens all the time.
However, there are thousands of minor league guys who have worked their tails off to keep the hockey dream alive. Cam Brown was one of those guys.
After playing one game with the Vancouver Canucks in 1990, Brown embarked on a long career in the ECHL and the AHL. He finished off his career in 2006 with the Gwinnett Gladiators, where he helped build the new franchise from scratch.
This past weekend, sad news hit the hockey world as it was revealed that Brown passed away at the age of 56.
The man was absolutely loved by everyone he came across, and the words of his former bosses and teammates speak to the kind of guy he was.

Cam Brown was beloved by his teammates

In the Gwinnett Daily Post, there were some truly incredible words, such as the ones below.
«Heart-breaking news for all of us in the hockey community," former Gladiators president and general manager Steve Chapman said. "Brownie embodied the best of us. Heart and character. He did things the way they were supposed to be done. On or off the ice. There's a reason his number hangs in the arena and it wasn't because he was the best player on the ice, but he was definitely amongst the best people. Our hearts go out to Rhyan, Logan and Christina. We all loved him.»

As for the guys he played with, it is clear that Brown made an impact on everyone he came across.
«Brownie taught me how to be a pro right away when I came in as a rookie,» former teammate Brad Schell said. «It wasn't what he said, it was how he prepared on and off the ice and how he treated everyone, regardless of the role they had with the team ad organization. ... He was an amazing leader, captain and mentor to myself and countless others. Brownie was an even better guy off the ice and way from the rink. He has one of the biggest hearts and cared so much about everyone around him. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.»

RIP Cam Brown.
