Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand is going to be taking a bit of a break from the game of hockey as his family experienced a devastating tragedy this weekend.
Brad Marchand is someone who Toronto Maple Leafs fans know all too well. He is the guy who has completely crushed this team's playoff hopes at every turn.
While the fans here root against him, they also have respect for him. They know just how good he is, and they know that at the end of the day, it's just competition.
Now, Marchand is a member of the Florida Panthers, and early on in the season, he is looking to step away from the sport, albeit for good reason.
Brad Marchand to take short break from hockey
According to Jameson Olive, Brad Marchand has decided to step away from hockey and miss tomorrow's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Marchand is doing this because he recently experienced a death in his family. The full extent of the tragedy has not been reported, and we don't imagine it will be.
These kinds of tragedies can take their toll on a player, and we appreciate Marchand being honest enough to say that he needs some time away right now.
Marchand is one of the best competitors in the league, and fans only dislike him because his tactics are effective when it comes to getting under people's skin.
He is one of those guys who just knows how to push buttons, and it is ultimately why he is where he is right now. The man deserves his success.
With all of this being said, our heart goes out to Marchand and his family during this difficult time. We hope everyone is getting the support they need.
It's been said before, but some things are just much bigger than hockey.
