Fan Sustains Life-Threatening Injuries After Falling from the Stands at a Pittsburgh Penguins Game

A Pittsburgh Penguins game at PPG Paints Arena turned into a frightening scene on Monday night, as a fan fell out of the stands after falling down a flight of stairs.
Some very upsetting news came down the pipeline on Monday night as the Pittsburgh Penguins took on the St. Louis Blues at the PPG Paints Arena.
While the Penguins won 6-3, and Sidney Crosby reached the 1700-point mark, the focus was on a fan who fell from the stands after a freak accident.
The spectator fell down the stairs of the upper bowl, and when he hit the glass, he fell off the railing and down into the section below.
Paramedics were quick to the scene and transported him to the hospital, although he is in critical condition and reportedly has life-threatening injuries.
Pittsburgh Penguins speak out about the incident
During the game, the Penguins put out a statement on the matter. The game was not suspended during the event. Play went on while the paramedics worked on the man.
The Pittsburgh Penguins can confirm that an adult male fell from the upper concourse to the lower bowl at PPG Paints Arena earlier this evening. The individual was immediately attended to by Pittsburgh EMS as well as PPG Paints Arena personnel and has since been transported to a local hospital. Although there is no further information at this time, the Penguins and OVG Management Group are closely monitoring the situation. Our concerns remain with the individual and his family at this time.
This is just absolutely terrible, and happened one day after a photographer fell 50 feet at a Pittsburgh Steelers game.
Can the NHL make fan safety a priority?
This is going to bring forth a ton of questions about safety in the NHL and whether or not teams around the league need to do more for the fans.
It's unfortunate what happened, and we're sure there will be some investigations going forward. Having said that, this is very sad for everyone involved.
