With the Toronto Maple Leafs playing against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, head coach Craig Berube is making a change at the goaltending position.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender
Anthony Stolarz has had a difficult start to the NHL season. However, he did get a win last night against the Calgary Flames.
Tonight, the Leafs are back in action again, marking the second back-to-back in a row for the Maple Leafs. The team still remains without
Joseph Woll, meaning
Cayden Primeau is the current backup.
With all of this context, it becomes clear who is going to get the start tonight, as the Leafs attempt to knock off a hungry Columbus Blue Jackets squad.
Who is the starting goalie for the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight?
According to multiple sources,
Cayden Primeau is going to get the start tonight. He is 2-0 so far this season, although his stats leave a lot to be desired.
He has a goals-against average of 3.46 and a save percentage of .875. These are not strong numbers, but they are to be expected, all things considered.
Primeau will not be the permanent backup for the team. Instead, Woll and Stolarz will split the net once the former returns.
As for Primeau, he is likely to be sent down to the Toronto Marlies. Or, he will be picked up on waivers by a team in desperate need of goaltending.
Either way, this is a great opportunity for Primeau to improve his record to 3-0, and give the Maple Leafs some separation in the Atlantic Division.
It's still early, but they are currently in third place, behind the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Red Wings.
