Former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman and first-round pick Timothy Liljegren was traded to the San Jose Sharks last season, where his fit has been suspect.

Timothy Liljegren had a ton of promise back in 2017 when the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted the defenseman 17th overall in the first round.
It was believed that he would be the team's next great d-man. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition. The team grew frustrated with him, and at the beginning of last season, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks.
The Leafs received Matt Benning in return, who has yet to play a game for the franchise. Meanwhile, Liljegren has been just "fine" with the Sharks.

San Jose Sharks look to trade Timothy Liljegren

According to a new report from The Fourth Period, the Sharks are looking to make some moves going forward, and they aren't shy about trading away defensemen.
In fact, Mario Ferraro and Liljegren are two of the names that they are seriously considering trading. This is a bit odd considering they are lacking NHL defensive talent.
The San Jose Sharks are believed to be willing to take trade calls on blueliners Mario Ferraro and Timothy Liljegren
Ultimately, Liljegren is struggling to maintain a solid NHL home, and a trade may be the only way for him to get the stability he is looking for.

The Timothy Liljegren experiment in Toronto

Liljegren played 197 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and during that time, he managed 65 points and just 14 goals. At times, he struggled to stay in the lineup.
Some felt as though the team wasn't giving him the right opportunity, and that they underutilized him to the point where a trade was the only option.
Only time will tell whether or not Liljegren can get himself a solid NHL opportunity going forward, or if he will end up becoming a journeyman.
