Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev got injured last night against the New Jersey Devils, and now, his status against the Buffalo Sabres is in question.
Overall, Tanev is the best defenseman on the team, and there is simply no room right now for the team to lose a guy like that.
The Leafs are off to a 3-3-1 start to the season, and last night's loss against the New Jersey Devils is further proof that the Leafs need to make some changes.
Chris Tanev's injury gets serious update
Today, the Leafs held an optional skate, which was originally supposed to be a full practice. It was here that head coach Craig Berube took some questions about his defenseman.
The coach noted that the defenseman is currently "questionable," which is certainly bad news as this usually means the player will sit out some games.
Chris Tanev "questionable" to play this weekend after suffering an upper-body injury Tuesday, per Berube.
The Maple Leafs are back in action on Friday against the Buffalo Sabres, and then they will get to play again on Saturday against the very same team.
This does not give Tanev very much time to get back into the lineup. However, this does open up the possibility of
Philippe Myers playing his first games of the season.
We also imagine that the Leafs might call up a defenseman from the Toronto Marlies, such as
Dakota Mermis.
Either way, this is a very tough situation for the Maple Leafs to be in, and we will be keeping tabs on this as time goes on.
