Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews did not register a single point against the New Jersey Devils, and head coach Craig Berube appears fed up.
Auston Matthews has not been himself for over a season now. Last year, he had an injury, but this year, there is no excuse. Regardless, he isn't the same guy anymore.
Last night, Matthews, Domi, and Knies were just awful against the New Jersey Devils. They couldn't get any scoring chances going, and it just felt like every shift was a lost cause.
Craig Berube is fed up with Auston Matthews
After the game, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was asked about the performance from the Matthews line, and he completely unleashed on his stars.
He said the chemistry is non-existant, and he is already sick and tired of watching them stumble around and not get any shots on goal.
It's obviously not good enough. I don't feel like they have any sustained pressure in the offensive zone. It's one and done.... It could (take time to find chemistry), but I'm getting tired of it, to be honest with you.
Chemistry is most certainly an issue right now, and quite frankly, the Maple Leafs need to be a whole lot better, or they won't win many games this season.
A record of 3-3-1 is no good, especially since their schedule dictates a record of 7-0 could have been possible.
Auston Matthews needs to figure some things out, and Max Domi can't seem to make anything work, regardless of what position he plays.
It's too early for the panic button, but if one thing is for certain, if the Leafs don't win both games against the Buffalo Sabres this weekend, there will be hell to pay in Toronto.
