Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube watched his team lay an egg against the Minnesota Wild and Morgan Rielly was one of the biggest culprits, yet again.
Rielly has been having an awful season by his standards and while his offensive production has been bad, his defensive play has been even worse.
Craig Berube speaks out on Morgan Rielly and his struggles
The fans in Toronto are starting to get a bit fed up with Rielly and there is this sense that the defenseman could be benched soon.
After last night's game, head coach Craig Berube spoke to the media where he was asked about the Maple Leafs alternate captain.
As you can imagine, Berube was not a happy camper with his team's performance, and he made sure to point out that Rielly has been especially bad.
"Can Morgan play better? Yes he can. We all know that. He knows that. And he has to try and work through it right now."
This is a diplomatic answer but underneath it you can tell that the head coach is starting to lose his mind a bit.
His team has scored three goals in the last three games and they can't get a save right now. Meanwhile, veterans like Rielly are missing the mark.
It is something that the Leafs are going to have to work through, especially with games against the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames coming up soon.
Now that the team has lost its lead in the Atlantic Division, something has got to give, and the players will need to look at themselves in the mirror going forward.
These recent string of efforts have not been acceptable for a team that should be contending for a Stanley Cup.
