Former Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Ties KHL Scoring Record

Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs forward Josh Leivo has been playing for Ufa Salavat Yulayev of the KHL over the past couple of seasons and he has been a stud.
Josh Leivo was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2011 and while he did play a few seasons with the team, he was ultimately relegated to the AHL towards the end.
He has become a prolific goal-scorer during his time in Russia, so much so that he is currently tying some pretty massive records.
Josh Leivo lights it up in the KHL
Today, Leivo scored his 48th goal of the season in his 61st game. He also has 30 assists to go with these goals, which puts him at 78 points for the entire season.
The goal was a beauty as he slapped it home past the goaltender's blocker. It's a far cry from the production he used to give at the NHL and AHL levels.
What is fascinating and monumental about this goal is that he tied the single-season scoring record previously set by Sergei Mozyakin.
This is a truly phenomenal achievement especially for a guy who has only been playing in the KHL for a couple of seasons. It is clear that he made the right choice by trying out a different league.
The KHL regular season is 68 games long which means Leivo has a few more opportunities to break the record outright. That is going to be an amazing moment.
We wish Leivo the best of luck as he continues his journey in the KHL. Perhaps his recent play will even have some teams calling his phone with big opportunities back in North America.
