Former Toronto Maple Leafs Goaltender Officially Retires After Just 130 NHL Games

After a long hockey career that included just 130 NHL starts, one-time Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Aaron Dell has called it a career.
Toronto Maple Leafs fans might remember the name
Aaron Dell. If you do, it's probably because you fully immersed yourself in every facet of the team during COVID.
In October of 2020, the goaltender joined the Leafs as part of the team's infamous Taxi squad. Although he never played a game.
Eventually, Dell went on to play for the New Jersey Devils before bouncing to the Buffalo Sabres, and later, the San Jose Sharks, with whom he started his career with.
On Thursday, Dell came out and revealed that at 36 years old, he would be retiring from the National Hockey League.
Aaron Dell retires from the NHL
The goaltender played a total of 130 NHL games, finishing with a record of 50-50-13. He had a goals-against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .905.
Over the past couple of seasons, he bounced around the AHL and ECHL, so it makes sense that he would call it a career.
Aaron played three years of collegiate hockey with the University of North Dakota before starting his professional career in 2012 with the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League (CHL), winning the Ray Miron President's Cup with Allen as the 2013 CHL playoff champions.
After biding his time, Aaron made his @NHL debut for the @SanJoseSharks on October 18, 2016, stopping 21 of 23 shots to record his first career win in his very first start and played 107 games for San Jose from 2016 to 2020.
Aaron joined the @NJDevils ahead of the 2020-2021 season, appearing in 7 games for New Jersey. During the 2021 offseason, Aaron signed with the
@BuffaloSabres, starting 12 games for the Team before returning to San Jose for the 2022-23 season, where he played his final NHL games with the club where he began his NHL career.
Ultimately, Dell had a lengthy career in professional hockey, and that is something to be applauded.
Only time will tell what is next for the goaltender and whether or not he continues to work in hockey.
