Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll played another game with the Toronto Marlies today, although this time around, he got to stay in for the entire game.
Joseph Woll is working his way back to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup following a leave of absence that took place early in the season.
Over the weekend, he got to play 36 minutes against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he allowed three goals on 24 shots.
Today, Woll got to play the entire game against the Grand Rapids Grifins, and there were some positives and negatives to his start.
Joseph Woll picks up some more ice time with the Toronto Marlies
The biggest negative here is that the Marlies lost by a score of 3-2 in overtime. However, it should be noted that Woll played all the way until the end, turning aside 25 of 28 shots.
For the most part, he made some big saves and kept his team in the game when it counted, which is what you want during a conditioning stint.
The biggest positive is that Woll got to play a full 60 minutes and then some, which is going to be good for his ability to play with the Leafs.
Of course, goaltending has not been a strong suit for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, and they need Woll to be at 100 percent.
Fans should have never expected Woll to go out and get a bunch of shutouts with the Marlies right away. This is all going to take time.
The AHL is a different beast, and the scoring chances are always high quality due to the lack of defense. In many ways, it is like the NCAA.
We wish Woll the best going forward. We cannot wait to see him back on the ice with the Maple Leafs.
