Just a few days ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to sign Alex Nylander to a one-year contract.

Overall, the brother of William Nylander had already been playing for the Toronto Marlies.
However, with all of the injuries plaguing the team right now, it became pretty clear that a signing was necessary.
Tonight, it is believed that Alex Nylander will get to play against the Utah Hockey Club.
This is going to be a huge game for Nylander as he looks to show fans what he can do. There is some pressure on him, especially as his older brother is on the roster.
Having said that, there is one scenario regarding Alex Nylander that fans are going to have to think long and hard about, going forward.

A scenario where Alex Nylander leaves

"If the Maple Leafs ever get to full health and want to send Alex Nylander back to the AHL, he will require waivers first."

Essentially, if the Toronto Maple Leafs get fully healthy, they will have no choice but to put Nylander on waivers.
If Nylander plays well over the coming weeks, then numerous teams will be looking to acquire him.
That could be a nightmare scenario for the Leafs, as you never want to lose a player for absolutely nothing.
Either way, this is the kind of risk you take as an NHL team, it is just part of the game at this point.
For now, fans probably aren't too worried about this scenario right now.
Instead, they are focused on this next stretch of games and whether or not Alex Nylander is truly able to keep up.
