Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews only has one goal against the Ottawa Senators so far this series and some are wondering what might be up with him.
While the team is still winning, the Leafs will need their captain to be playing his best hockey once the second round rolls around.
Auston Matthews talks Toronto Maple Leafs scoring
While speaking to Nick Barden of The Hockey News, Matthews explained why his scoring has taken a bit of a hit.
Frankly, he does not see it as an issue. He is trying to do the little things correctly and he knows that if he keeps it up, the team will be in a great spot.
"I think at this time of year, it takes the group, it takes everybody out there. No matter what your role is, you gotta sacrifice and do all the little things. Obviously, you want to produce, you want to do all of that stuff, but like I said, puck battles, faceoffs, blocking shots, making plays at the right time, taking care of pucks in the right areas, those are all the little things that accumulate over the time, over games, over series, and those are the details you need to win."
As for Craig Berube, he is not worried about his captain. he understands the matchups are tough and that playoff hockey is about getting into the right areas.
"I mean, there's obviously things like everybody else that you're looking at that they can do better. They have tough matchups with the Stutzle line. It's a good line. I think they're doing a good job defensively and checking and doing a lot of good things. You just got to keep going."
Overall, the Toronto Maple Leafs are a good team and being up 3-0 on the Senators is a very good sign.
Only time will tell whether or not they can keep the party going and defeat the Senators in Game 4, which takes place on Saturday.
