Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is due for a new contract and his head coach Craig Berube is certainly one of the people pushing for it.
Matthew Knies has been sensational for the Toronto Maple Leafs throughout his young career and that has definitely been true in the playoffs.
In six games against the Ottawa Senators, he had three goals and many of these goals were very important in helping the team win the series.
This offseason, Knies will become a free agent and there is no denying that the team will want to sign him before any offer sheets come in.
Craig Berube praises Matthew Knies
As it turns out, there is now some pressure being applied on the Leafs, and it is coming from an unlikely source: the team's head coach, Craig Berube.
In recent comments, Berube noted how impressed he is by Knies and that the entire organization is also loving the kid.
He keeps impressing me, along with everyone else in the organization. He is a very competitive player with a ton of talent, but it is his effort that drives him, in my opinion.
That is an effort play all day long - not quitting, beating his D up the ice, outskating him, outmuscling him, and the skill to do what he did to score the goal.
