Matthew Knies has been a stud with the Toronto Maple Leafs and fans are hopeful that the forward will sign a contract extension with the franchise before things start to get a bit hairy.
However,
Matthew Knies remains a priority for GM Brad Treliving as the forward's first couple of seasons with the Leafs have been extremely productive.

Moreover, Knies recently spoke to reporter Joshua Kloke about his contract negotiations, and it led to a pretty interesting answer.
Simply put, this is not something the forward is thinking about too much right now. Instead, he would rather focus on the team's success.
"I don't focus on that at all. It didn't affect me when I was in college and deciding (whether to sign with the Leafs). I'm just focused on what I can do to become a better player. I don't care about points or fancy plays. I just want to help this team win at all costs. That's the value I can bring to the team."
This is a great mindset to have and it shows that Knies has a good head on his shoulders as he navigates the NHL.
He is only in his second season and he is proving to be someone that the Maple Leafs can rely on.
In 36 games this season, he has 11 goals and eight assists although had it not been for his injury, he would probably be a lot more productive.
Either way, Knies is a guy that Leafs fans love and we hope the team can keep him around for the longterm.
