Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev has been fantastic for the team this season, but this one NHL Playoffs statistic could be a big problem very fast.
Chris Tanev is easily the best free agent that the Toronto Maple Leafs brought in during the 2024 offseason. He has proven to be a stud who can do it all, and the fans love him.
However, the defenseman has also been taking a ton of punishment in the form of hits. A new stat came out today that spells big trouble for the Leafs and Tanev's health.
Chris Tanev is taking punishment
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, Tanev has taken 71 hits so far in the playoffs, which is 28 more than the player who has taken the second-most hits.
Ironically enough, that player just so happens to be
Rasmus Sandin who used to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Chris Tanev leads the playoffs in hits taken (71), and it's not even close.
Rasmus Sandin is second (43).
At 35 years old, it is not like Tanev is a Spring chicken. He has a lot of miles on his body, and this volume of hits could be problematic.
For now, however, the Leafs are going to appreciate his efforts while they last. These are the guys you need if you want to win a Stanley Cup.
As of right now, Chris Tanev and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the midst of a war against the Florida Panthers in Game 4.
The score is 0-0 but so far, the Panthers have been the better team as
Joseph Woll stands on his head.
