John Tavares had been on a heater to start the season, however, amidst the team's recent losing streak, the former captain began to show signs of his age.
Unfortunately, his struggles reached a climax on Wednesday morning as he was injured at practice and subsequently placed on the injured reserve.
John Tavares listed as week-to-week by the Maple Leafs
Meanwhile, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the original fear on Wednesday night was that Tavares would miss two weeks to a month's worth of action.
However, there is now a sense that he will be able to return faster, with a two-week timeline being given to the star forward.
"Officially, the Leafs just said that he is on IR which means a minimum of one week out. What I was told Wednesday night was that it might be two-to-four weeks for John Tavares to be out.
There was a little bit more optimism Thursday morning that perhaps it could be less than that... The Leafs will have a better idea in about 7-10 days where Tavares is at.
Until then, it's a bit of guesswork, but I will guess, and my guess is at least two weeks here for John Tavares."
With all of this in mind, it should be interesting to see how the Leafs are able to handle their schedule, moving forward.
On Thursday night, the Maple Leafs snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating
the New Jersey Devils in overtime.
It is going to be a very interesting game, and one can only hope that the Maple Leafs bring their best effort.
