With the Toronto Maple Leafs losing Mitch Marner, there is this sense that the team won't do as well in the NHL standings, and The Athletic is seeing if that's true.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in for a very interesting season. The vast majority of the team is back, although they will be without the likes of Mitch Marner.
That said, the goaltending is the same, and the defense is the same. For the most part, this is a solid roster, and with head coach Craig Berube behind the bench for a second season, we could be in for an entertaining show every night.
The Athletic gives its take on the Toronto Maple Leafs
Recently,
The Athletic did a piece about the Toronto Maple Leafs and the kind of season they are likely to have, given their current roster and competition.
After winning the Atlantic Division and being amongst the best in the Eastern Conference, very little is probably going to change this season.
In The Athletic's piece, they have the Leafs coming up short in the Atlantic, all while finishing off the season with 101 points. This would be good enough for 7th in the NHL.
Come playoff time, things would be difficult for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers are looking strong.
However, the Leafs may just surprise people, and the expectation is that a heavy dropout probably isn't actually in the cards.
On October 8th, the regular season will officially begin, and we will finally get to see whether or not this Leafs team truly is the real deal.
Overall, it is going to be a lot of fun, and the fans are going to be in for quite the treat.
