The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't always the best when it comes to making trades, but the Chicago Blackhawks are well aware of their power in negotiations.
Overall, McCabe was a player that fans knew would be a succes. So far, that has been the case as he is one of the team's most important players.
Not to mention, the deal did not cost the Leafs a whole lot in terms of assets. Sure, there were some first-rounders involved, but nothing detrimental.
We've acquired
Jake McCabe,
Sam Lafferty, a conditional 5th round pick in 2024 and a conditional 5th round pick in 2025 from Chicago in exchange for a conditional 2025 1st round pick, 2026 2nd round pick,
Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev
Based on everything that has transpired over the past two years, it remains clear to everyone involved that the Maple Leafs fleeced the Blackhawks.
Toronto Maple Leafs out work the Chicago Blackhawks
Joey Anderson is a player who has been stuck in the AHL, and as a result, the Blackhawks have not gotten much use out of him.
As for Gogolev, he is back in the KHL. As for the draft picks, there is no telling whether or not they will ever pan out.
Meanwhile, the Blackhawks have continued to be one of the worst teams in the league, and McCabe has been a contributor on one of the league's best playoff contenders.
Needless to say, Kyle Dubas made a great trade, and it was probably his last great move before eventually moving on to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Hopefully, the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to see success with McCabe, who has been the true definition of professionalism.
