Toronto Maple Leafs grinder Steven Lorentz scored the go-ahead goal against the Colorado Avalanche tonight and it was all thanks to an unfortunate referee blunder.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche are in the midst of a very important game as the former is trying to win the Atlantic Division title.
After defeating the Calgary Flames on Monday by a score of 6-2, the Leafs were looking to keep the momentum going against one of the best teams in the entire NHL.
In the middle of the third period, the score was tied at 1 goal apiece and with the Avalanche going on the Power Play, things were looking bleak for Toronto.

Steven Lorentz benefits from referee error

However, during the ensuing penalty kill, Steven Lorentz was gifted a goal by the referee who experienced a truly embarrassing blunder.
As you can see in the video down below, the Leafs were clearing the puck all the way down the ice. This is when the referee tried to skate to the boards but fell, only to block the puck from going down into the Avalanche end.
Lorentz then chased the puck down and got himself a partial break where he ended up burying the puck and scoring one of the weirdest goals you will see in the NHL this season.
UPDATE: Following this goal, the Toronto Maple Leafs went on to win this game by a score of 2-1 which is as close as it gets.
This was a massive win for the team as they are now tied for first in the Atlantic Division with the Florida Panthers. Both of these teams have played 68 games and they both have 85 points.
In the final 14 games of the season, the Leafs take on the Panthers twice and they are going to need to bring their best game.
The win against the Avalanche is going to go a long way in giving this team some confidence to finish out the season. Tomorrow night, the Leafs take on the New York Rangers in the second half of a back-to-back.
A win will only strengthen the team's case for first in the Division.
