Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was quietly promoted this past week, although there is one thing about his promotion that has left him a little sad.
Unfortunately, this has all come at the expense of Brendan Shanahan, who parted ways with the franchise last week after a decade as Team President.
Criag Berube on Brendan Shanahan
According to Nick Barden of
The Hockey News, Berube took Shanahan's firing quite hard and wasn't too happy about it.
While speaking to the publication, the Leafs head coach revealed just how much respect and admiration he has for Shanahan.
It was a tough day. I was in constant communication with him throughout the season, and here's a guy that knows about winning and was obviously a great player. I love talking to him about hockey on a daily basis and just being around him. He was around us a lot, which was great.
[...] Wish him all the best, but my time with him was excellent and I'll miss him.
Shanahan had a rough week as he was also passed up for the President and General Manager job with the New York Islanders.
However, it is believed that he will have another job in the hockey world very soon. After all, he is a very respected individual.
As for Craig Berube, we are interested to see what he will do over the coming weeks and months with his increased influence.
If his first season as head coach showed us anything, it is that he gets his guys prepared to play in a way that takes them very far.
