Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has a big decision to make in free agency, but if it were up to this legend, he would be gone by the time July 1st rolls around.

Based on current reports, it would appear as though Mitch Marner is on his way out of Toronto. This comes after yet another disappointing playoff loss.
Overall, Marner has not performed well when the going gets tough, and at this point, there are a lot of fans out there who are fed up with these lackluster results.
With the forward likely to explore free agency, there is this sense that he is as good as gone, and according to Leafs legend Rick Vaive, this is a good thing.

Rick Vaive gets harsh about Mitch Marner

In a new piece from The Toronto Sun, Vaive claims that Marner clearly isn't built for the city, despite being from here.
Vaive feels as though Marner always appears nervous, and that this is shining through in his play during the postseason.
"I know that times have changed and players are more coddled, but I have to think the Toronto-area guys on this team know full well what's expected of them. Now that their season is over again, it's getting clear a player such as Mitch Marner isn't cut out for it.

I watch him during the national anthem and he seems nervous, I see his interviews and he's uncomfortable. When you get into a high-stakes playoff series against a team such as Florida, that's not a good look."
Vaive then went on to argue that perhaps leaving Toronto is what is best for Marner. Even though it would suck for the fans, both sides might just benefit.
"I think Mitch gets intimidated. You look at him going for the puck and he's like a figure skater, afraid to get hit. As I've said before, a change of scenery will do him good, at the same time understanding how much he loves Toronto."

Overall, it is hard to argue with a legend like Vaive, who has scored 50 goals in a season before. He played in Toronto, and he knows what it's like.
It will be very interesting to see what Marner decides to do as July 1st is still over a month away.
