With the Toronto Maple Leafs kicking Brendan Shanahan out the door on Thursday, MLSE CEO Keith Pelley is now making the expectations exceptionally clear.
This week was a big one for the
Toronto Maple Leafs as they are looking to pick up the pieces from their Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers.
Toronto Maple Leafs must win a Stanley Cup
During Pelley's press conference today, he made it crystal clear what the Toronto Maple Leafs organization's goals are going forward.
Effectively, Pelley is not interested in selling more jerseys than everyone else. Instead, he wants this franchise to go out and win a Stanley Cup.
"We have to be on the pathway to winning the Stanley Cup."
Winning a Stanley Cup is no easy task, and it's hard to imagine the Toronto Maple Leafs doing so if they lose guys like
Mitch Marner and
John Tavares.
However, if you are a Leafs fan, you have to keep the faith because it is all you have to go off of.
Hopefully, this team can figure it out. They have the right staff in place, but now, it is going to be about constructing a roster that can perform when the going gets tough.
Without that, this team is going to continue being knocked out in the first and second round.
