Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Artur Akhtyamov is currently with the Toronto Marlies, and his development has been impressive to watch over the past few months.
When
Joseph Woll eventually returns to the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise, the Marlies will also gain
Cayden Primeau, unless, of course, someone claims him off waivers.
That said, the Leafs have a ton of prospect goaltenders in their ranks right now, and the Marlies are a team to watch if you're interested in the developments of these netminders.
Artur Akhtyamov is killing it for the Toronto Marlies
As it turns out, Akhtyamov specifically, is starting to really come into his own and reach some new heights with the organization.
The 23-year-old made 24 saves on 26 shots on Sunday afternoon, which is a solid outing, and it even got him the game belt that is so highly-sought after in the Marlies locker room.
It was Akthyamov's first win of the season, and his second start overall. His first game was a bit shaky, but this second one is a sign of things to come.
Through two games, Akhtyamov has a goals-against average of 3.04 and a save percentage of .885. As he plays more games, these numbers are sure to improve.
With all of that in mind, the Maple Leafs organization has a lot to be excited right about now. The goaltending stable is solid, and it will only get better.
For now,
Anthony Stolarz remains at the top, with Joseph Woll right behind. But in the coming years, guys like Hildeby an Akhtyamov will look to take over.
Only time will tell whether or not Akhtyamov can continue to be the goaltender of the future in the AHL.
