Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe is up for a new contract, and if he chooses not to stay in L.A., the Toronto Maple Leafs will be knocking at his door.
Adrian Kempe is a forward who continues to grow his game, and he is one of the best players on the Los Angeles Kings right now.
However, he is up for a new contract this season, and there is a sense that he could end up making a whole lot of money. There is also a sense that he will leave Los Angeles if he doesn't get what he wants.
This has subsequently led to intense speculation about where Kempe is going to go next. The Toronto Maple Leafs need a top-six winger, so unsurprisingly, they are on the list of teams looking to pounce.
Pierre LeBrun on the Adrian Kempe situation
Recently, Pierre LeBrun wrote about Kempe and what the salary expectations are for the forward. He is a point-per-game kind of guy, and with the salary cap going up, he stands to get a raise.
In fact, the analyst proclaims that Kempe could wind up asking for a whopping $11-12 million per season, which would be a hefty price tag for any team.
An AAV in the $11 million to $12 million range probably makes sense here on a long-term deal
The Toronto Maple Leafs are already paying a ton of large salaries, but with lots of cap space on the horizon, Kempe could be an option for them.
They won't be able to acquire
Connor McDavid, so why not swing for the fences with someone else? It's not like they're not allowed to ask around.
Throughout the season, the 2026 Free Agency cycle will continue to be a story for the Leafs, and it's going to be very difficult for fans not to get wrapped up in it.
Either way, we're sure Brad Treliving is hard at work, weighing all of his options that will make this team better.
