Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews had the game-winning goal against the New York Rangers on Thursday, only to miss practice the very next day.
Just a couple of games ago, there was talk that perhaps Auston Matthews' injury problems were still persistent, even despite his claims that he is 100 percent good to go.
Since that time, Matthews has scored three goals in two games. He has four goals and one assist in five games this season, and at this stage, he is looking pretty good if you ask us.
Unfortunately, no matter what, the media is going to speculate about Matthews. Luckily, the franchise knows that, and they are quick to dispel any rumors.

This was showcased this morning as the Leafs had practice following their overtime win against the Rangers. The captain was not on the ice, as Calle Jarnkrok was on the first line in his place.
According to David Alter of The Hockey News, it was quickly revealed that Matthews was taking the day off due to maintenance, much like William Nylander at yesterday's morning skate.

Overall, it makes a lot of sense that the Toronto Maple Leafs would want to give Matthews some time off, especially with the amount of minutes he plays.
Without Mitch Marner by his side, he needs to carry more of the load, and that is no easy task when you really sit down and think about it.
With the Maple Leafs looking to do big things this weekend, there is no denying that the fans are going to be eager to see how Matthews keeps up the pace.
His overtime goal was sensational, and it is clear to us that he is still capable of playing at an extremely high level.
