Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson could be subjected to a trade soon, and insiders like Chris Johnston seem to know where he is most likely to go.
Nick Robertson is currently in the midst of trade rumors as the Toronto Maple Leafs have not given the forward the type of opportunities he has been looking for.
In fact, it seems like Robertson has spoken to the front office about a potential deal. It makes sense as he is a valuable player who could be a solid middle-six force somewhere else.
The Leafs are just incredibly deep right now, and the forward is someone who is redundant, especially when you consider the rise of guys like Easton Cowan.
Chris Johnston speaks out on Nick Robertson
Recently, Athletic reporters Chris Johnson and Jonas Siegel discussed where Robertson could go going forward. Of course, teams in need of offense are at the top of the list.
Those teams are the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Columbus Blue Jackets of the Metropolitan Division. Both teams remain desperate for an injection of scoring in their middle-six.
Finding an interested suitor willing to pay a price that makes sense for the Maple Leafs hasn't been easy. Two teams that might eventually fit the bill: Pittsburgh and Columbus
The Penguins would be the likeliest option for the Maple Leafs thanks to the Kyle Dubas connection. Not to mention, the Penguins have players whom the Leafs are interested in.
It does feel like a Robertson trade is closer than ever to coming to fruition. However, the Maple Leafs have to be willing to eat a loss.
When trading away players like Robertson, it is difficult to come out on top. Although, if the Leafs trade for a draft pick that they can then flip for depth at the deadline, perhaps a win is possible.
