Toronto Maple Leafs forward Sammy Blais has been out of the lineup since joining the team a few weeks ago, and it is unclear if he will ever get an opportunity.

Sammy Blais is someone who Leafs head coach Craig Berube knows quite well. After all, the forward played for Berube with the St. Louis Blues.
At the start of the season, the Maple Leafs claimed Blais off waivers, as they needed some reinforcements following an injury to Scott Laughton.
Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan for Blais so far. He has yet to crack the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup, and it feels unlikely that he ever will.

At practice today, Blais was on the outside looking in, yet again. Steven Lorentz was back in the lineup, and with Auston Matthews taking a day off for maintenance, Blais still couldn't get an opportunity.
Lorentz is likely to play on Saturday, while Scott Laughton is a few weeks away from returning. Barring more than a couple of injuries, there is just nowhere for Blais to turn.
While some probably expected this, it must be disheartening for Blais to have to continuously watch games from the press box.

When Laughton returns, we imagine that Blais will be put on waivers, and if he clears, he will be sent down to the AHL.
It is unfortunate, but that just goes to show how deep a team the Maple Leafs are. Not everyone can get a shot at glory.
While Blais' time in Toronto isn't over just yet, one has to wonder if the Leafs will ever just put him in the lineup to see what he can do.
