Nick Robertson is someone the Toronto Maple Leafs are thinking about trading right now, and the price has been set as Brad Treliving works the phones.
Despite signing a one-year extension this past summer, there has been lots of smoke surrounding a Nick Robertson trade.
The Maple Leafs have an abundance of bottom-six players right now, and it feels as though there just isn't a place for Robertson on the roster.
General manager Brad Treliving is in need of assets right now, whether that be young prospects or draft picks. Having said that, Robertson could easily yield that kind of return.
Brad Treliving continues to work on Nick Robertson trade
Recently, reporter Chris Johnston confirmed the notion that the Maple Leafs are interested in dealing Robertson before the season.
As for their price, the Maple Leafs just want something that they could flip at the trade deadline once they know that they'll be buyers.
One thing in Toronto is the cupboards are relatively bare because they've been a trade-deadline buyer for season after season. I think they're in a position to be open-minded about the return. It's about getting what they deem to be fair value. But if it's another young player, if it's a draft pick, presumably it's something they can use to potentially make future trades as well.»
With a lack of draft picks at their disposal, it makes sense that the Leafs would want this kind of return for Nick Robertson.
Not to mention, it's not like the forward has the highest value in the world right now. Treliving must be realistic about what you can get for a guy who had 15 goals last season.
Last year, Robertson was asking for a trade from the Leafs, and at this point, it just feels like this would be the best conclusion for all sides involved.
Hopefully, both sides can figure out a solution, before this gets dragged out for months.
