This morning, the Utah Hockey Club and the Toronto Maple Leafs completed a trade for winger Matias Maccelli, who is now going to the Mecca of hockey in Canada.
The former Utah Hockey Club forward had 17 goals and 57 points a season ago, but only had eight goals and 10 assists last season.
Hearing Matias Maccelli is being traded to Toronto
3rd rounder in return
Minutes after Elliotte Friedman announced the trade, it was revealed by Frank Seravalli that the third-round pick was a conditional one in 2027.
However, if
Macelli can get back over the 51-point mark and the Leafs make the playoffs, then this draft pick will become a second-rounder in 2029.
To #LeafsForever:
F Matias Maccelli
To #TusksUp:
Cond. 2027 3rd Round Pick
Condition: That pick can become a 2029 2nd Round Pick if Maccelli scores 51 or more points in 2025-26 AND Toronto qualifies for the playoffs.
All in all, this is a solid bit of business from general manager Brad Treliving, who is showcasing just how much of a talent he truly is.
Toronto Maple Leafs on free agency
Tomorrow is July 1st, which means free agency will have officially opened up at Noon. However, with the Leafs making all of these moves, it remains to be seen if the team even does anything.
General Manager Brad Treliving has had a masterclass over the past few days, and we cannot wait to see what he does next.
If he makes the Marner trade happen, then we are in for a truly wild ride.
