Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves was recently assigned to the Toronto Marlies and head coach John Gruden is speaking out on the situation.
Ryan Reaves was a victim of the trade deadline but not in the way that most people would expect.
Reaves' situation has taken some money off of the books for the Leafs and there is no telling when he will return to the Maple Leafs.
Ryan Reaves has yet to play for the Toronto Marlies
Marlies head coach John Gruden recently spoke to the media where he was asked about Reaves and his status going forward.
Shockingly, Gruden told Mark Masters of TSN that he hasn't spoken to Reaves since the assignment and that they aren't sure when he will get into the lineup.
"We'll see what happens with that ... It's a tough adjustment for anyone. At the end of the day, we just want what's best for him."
When you read something like this, you can't help but theorize what might be going on behind the scenes.
Reaves is 38 years old and has not played in the AHL for over a decade, so it is easy to see why he may not want to finish out his career over there.
Either way, we hope he reports to the AHL eventually because holding out in this way is a bit of a bad look for a veteran.
While it might be difficult to do, you need to swallow your pride and show the youth a good example.
