Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic and Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans were two players the Toronto Maple Leafs were thinking about at the trade deadline.
With the trade deadline coming up on Friday, numerous teams around the league are looking to wheel and deal, including the
Toronto Maple Leafs.
Unfortunately, after the events of the last 15 minutes, they are both officially off of the market.
Trent Frederic traded to the Edmonton Oilers
According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, Frederic has been sent to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-team deal that also involves the New Jersey Devils.
Edmonton has sent back some picks to the Bruins, while
Shane Lachance signing rights have been given to the Devils.
As for Jake Evans, the center decided to stay with the Montreal Canadiens and sign a new four-year deal.
Montreal Canadiens re-sign Jake Evans
This is a contract that Evans will certainly appreciate as it gives him stability moving forward. While there is no NTC attached, the Canadiens seem happy to retain him for the foreseeable future.
Frederic and Evans were simply guys being considered, but they were never the team's main attraction of the trade deadline.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how Brad Treliving responds given the fact that his division rivals have already made some moves before the Friday deadline.
