A couple of weeks ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs traded with the Utah Mammoth to bring in Matias Maccelli, and fans are certainly intrigued by this new player.

Matias Maccelli is a player who showcased a ton of promise a couple of seasons ago when he had 57 points with the Arizona Coyotes. Unfortunately, the team moved to Utah, and he was not the same player.
In 55 games last season, he had just 18 points, which had many wondering whether or not that 57-point season was just some kind of fluke.
Now, however, he will get to play with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team that is comprised of better players who can give Maccelli a chance to shine.

Matias Maccelli and the Toronto Maple Leafs

Recently, Utah Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong was on 'Leafs Morning Take,' where he gave his opinion on Maccelli.
It was here that the GM was honest about why the forward was traded. It wasn't so much about performance, but about fit and what is right for the player.
I've always viewed being a GM with your players as a partnership. We had pretty good relationships with the players, and when, you know, there's not a fit in our club, we're going to do what's best for our club.

At the same time, if we can help the player out and move him to a good place, we want to do that and that's what happened here with this deal.

It's a good deal for Utah, it's a great deal for the Leafs, and it's going to be good for the player. He's going to go in and play around with some very high-skilled players, and it's going to benefit him and benefit the Leafs.

Armstrong thinks Maccelli will actually excel with the Leafs and that he could very well get back to that production from a couple of seasons ago.
For the Leafs, Maccelli is a guy who could help replace Mitch Marner on the right wing. Of course, that is not going to be easy, but it is possible.
Ultimately, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in a unique position this upcoming season, and we cannot wait to see how the roster shapes out.
If one thing is for certain, it is that general manager Brad Treliving is not done putting this team together.
