Former NHL referee Mike Hasenfratz passes away at 58

Sad news has hit the NHL world today as it was revealed that NHL referee Mike Hasenfratz passed at the young age of 58 years old.
For those who may not remember, Hasenfratz was an official with the NHL between the years 2000 and 2014.
During those 14 years, Hasenfratz had the privilege of officiating in over 700 games which is pretty prolific if you ask us.
The NHL even put out a statement following the news, and it was very heartfelt.
There is no doubt that Hasenfratz had a lasting impact on the game and the officials who worked so hard alongside him.

The NHL mourns the passing of referee Mike Hasenfratz, who officiated over 700 NHL games from 2000-01 to 2013-14. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and the many colleagues he worked alongside throughout his career in hockey.
58 is a young age to pass away and you cannot help but feel for Hasenfratz, his family, and his community right now.
The referee was from Saskatchewan and he was very well known in his community.
He is someone who will forever be remembered fondly for the things he did and the contributions he made.
Our condolences go out to the entire Hasenfratz family during this difficult time.
We hope they are able to find peace, as well as support from their community.
