Mikko Rantanen Trade Falls Apart as Dallas Stars Fail to Negotiate New Contract

Carolina Hurricanes forward Mikko Rantanen was very close to being traded to the Dallas Stars, however, a breakdown in contract negotiations led to a stalemate.
Just about an hour ago, we reported that the Dallas Stars and the Carolina Hurricanes had the framework in place for a
Mikko Rantanen trade.
Unfortunately, for the Stars, it would appear as though they were unable to get that done which has ultimately led to a failed blockbuster trade, according to Darren Dreger.
Mikko Rantanen fails to sign with the Dallas Stars
As Dreger revealed, the trade is no longer happening and it is all because the Stars and Rantanen could not come to terms on a contract agreement.
While there is still a chance that the trade could be back on later down the road, it seems like the Hurricanes are moving on from this deal at the moment, and will continue to shop their superstar winger.
There is no deal between Dallas and Carolina for Mikko Rantanen. It appears Carolina may have to go back to the drawing board. Doesn't mean a deal/extension with Dallas can't materialize, but it's not there as of now.
Simply put, this whole situation has been an abject disaster from the very start, and it begins with the Colorado Avalanche trading a player who never wanted to be dealt in the first place.
This is all just one big jumbled mess and you have to wonder what the Carolina Hurricanes must be thinking right now.
If anything, they should feel wildly incompetent for ever letting something like this happen.
At this point, they should just cut their losses and try to win the Cup with Rantanen before he inevitably leaves in free agency.
