Toronto Maple Leafs forward Easton Cowan is waiting to make his NHL debut, and there was hope that it would come against the Detroit Red Wings.

Easton Cowan is the rookie on everyone's mind, at least when it comes to Leafs Nation. He is bringing lots of intrigue, and the fans want to watch him play.
The forward remains on the Leafs roster, although in the first game against the Montreal Canadiens, he was a healthy scratch.
Tonight, the Maple Leafs are taking on the Detroit Red Wings, and the thought process was that Cowan could end up on the third line.
As it turns out, that is not in the cards. According to David Alter, the Maple Leafs are keeping things the same. Cowan, Sammy Blais, and Philippe Myers are healthy scratches.
Easton Cowan and Sammy Blais are out skating late doing extra work along with Phil Myers. Those are your projected scratches tonight.
This is very disappointing to see, and it makes us wonder whether or not the Leafs are finally going to let Cowan go down to the minors.

Easton Cowan's development takes a hit

The only way that Easton Cowan is going to get better is by playing games. If the Leafs won't let him, then they must send him to the Toronto Marlies.
We are only two games into the NHL season, and fans are already starting to get frustrated with the situation, and rightfully so.
At the end of the day, Cowan is a good player and he does need work. However, the Leafs should be trying to get him on the ice as much as possible.
With two games coming up on Monday and Tuesday, we hope to get Cowan in the lineup sooner rather than later.
