Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has pretty well confirmed he is going to free agency, and this is about to trigger the ultimate bidding war for the forward.
Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly in the midst of a messy divorce, and this does not appear to be ending well for anyone involved.
Now, Marner must figure out where he wants to sign next, and there will be no shortage of potential suitors as the forward is a very sought-after man.
Who will sign Mitch Marner?
The team in question is the Las Vegas Golden Knights, who have proven themselves to be one of the best teams in the entire NHL over the last decade or so.
This is a franchise that has reportedly been on Marner's wishlist, so it should come as absolutely no surprise that there is some mutual interest here.
Unfortunately for Marner and the Golden Knights, some salary cap maneuvering must be done in order for this partnership to work.
The Knights would be way over the cap, and would have to part ways with some players in order to bring Marner in. That is where a sign-and-trade would come into play.
Whatever the case may be, the Knights will have some competition in the acquisition of Mitch Marner. There are numerous teams gunning for him, like the Los Angeles Kings and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Some even have the price tag on Marner to be over $14 million per season, which is an inconceivable number, even for a guy like Mitch.
