Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is not playing his best hockey right now, although the treatment from the referees certainly isn't helping him.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you are probably fed up with just how bad the team has been as of late. While they can string together wins, the consistency just isn't there.
Auston Matthews had it out for the referees on Wednesday
As you can see below, Matthews was battling for the puck, and after bringing his stick down, he was called for a slashing penalty.
Overall, this is one of the softest calls you will ever see. Quite frankly, it doesn't make any sense at all that this was called a penalty, and the captain let the referee know.
"So f--king soft," Matthews shouted. He was livid, and the crash-out was most definitely justified. However, the penalty stood, regardless of the anger.
At the end of the day, the Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that needs to figure some things out. Without
Mitch Marner, they do not look like Stanley Cup contenders.
Not to mention,
Joseph Woll will remain out for a couple more weeks, and if one thing is for certain, it is that
Cayden Primeau is not built for the moment.
The Leafs will be back in action on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers, and the pressure will be on to get a commanding victory.
