Toronto Maple Leafs star John Tavares reached a huge career milestone on Wednesday night, although it happened in the midst of a horrible blowout.
John Tavares was going into last night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with the opportunity to hit 500 career NHL goals.
This puts you in elite company, and it all but guarantees you a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Doing it with your childhood team is just that much sweeter.
John Tavares gets 500 as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs
Below, you can see that the goal was from a phenomenal feed off the tape of Toronto Maple Leafs superstar forward,
Matthew Knies.
The goal came at a time when the game was already lost, and there was very little hope for the Maple Leafs to actually come back and win the game.
There was little to no fanfare surrounding the goal, especially since the game was in Columbus. There were very few Maple Leafs fans to help Tavares celebrate.
The former captain looked despondent on the Leafs bench, and head coach Craig Berube ended up coming over to him to congratulate him.
Clearly, Tavares needed to be consoled or at least cheered up about what just happened, and Berube was there for him in that moment.
That said, the Maple Leafs are not looking good right now, and there is no amount of milestones that can fix what this team is currently going through.
On Saturday, the Maple Leafs are back in action against the Philadelphia Flyers, and they better hope that they get some players back from injury; otherwise, it is going to get spooky.
