Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is seeking a top-six center for his team, although with the market being thin, some teams are playing tough to get.

Brad Treliving needs to get some top-six talent on the Toronto Maple Leafs sooner rather than later. At this stage, the Leafs are struggling, and they could use the help.
Unfortunately, getting yourself a top-six forward is a lot easier said than done these days. They don't grow on trees, and with the market thinning out, teams are getting more ruthless.
This is especially true when it comes to the market for centers. If you have a center, teams are going to want to do business with you, and they know they are going to have to pay up.

Brad Treliving wants to improve the Toronto Maple Leafs

In fact, according to reporter Cam Robinson, teams like the Calgary Flames understand just how much their rivals would like a guy like Nazem Kadri.
The plan is to overcharge teams that would want him, and that includes the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's a tough pill to swallow, but that's the reality right now.
Sources around the league say this is the best market in years for anyone dangling a top-six centre. The demand is huge, and the prices reflect it.

On an unrelated note, Nazem Kadri plays game No. 1000 next Wednesday.
Treliving is going to have to be careful going forward, as mortgaging your future for a center might not be the way to go, unless they know for sure that it will be a good fit.
The Leafs have trouble scoring, but they also have trouble keeping the puck out of the net, and that should be a major concern as November is set to begin.
Overall, the market is going to heat up, and the lead-up to the trade deadline in March is going to be a cat-and-mouse game.
For now, fans can only wait and see what their team is going to decide to do here. If the Leafs keep losing, a trade is almost a guarantee.
