Auston Matthews' injury status confirmed ahead of Ottawa Senators game

Overall, Matthews has missed a total of three games. This is obviously not an ideal situation for the Leafs, in the least bit. However, they have gone 3-0 in that span.
While these may not be the best teams in the league, they were still solid wins that the team should be proud of. Tonight, they take on the Ottawa Senators in what should be a fun rivalry game.
Auston Matthews will not play tonight
"We want to make sure we get ahead of it and hopefully get it behind us once and for all. He will remain day to day. I would say he is doubtful for tomorrow, but he skated Saturday and Sunday so we'll keep going down that path."
This is definitely disappointing but it should come as a surprise to no one.
Matthews' injury is one that has reportedly been lingering for a very long time. Consequently, the team only wants him back once he has been given time to recover.
When he does come back, there is a very real possibility that he gets back to the production fans expect from him.
Even if he doesn't, there are still players on this Leafs team who have been sensational. For instance, we have
William Nylander and
Mitch Marner who are on a tear.
Not to mention, the emergence of
Matthew Knies has gone a long way as well.
Either way, we wish Matthews well as he makes his recovery. Hopefully, he can come back while the team is still in the midst of a winning streak.
