Last night was not a good one for
Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs as they got absolutely crushed by the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 5-1.
Auston Matthews on the Scotiabank Arena crowd
However, early in the game, the fans at the Scotiabank Arena did have an opportunity to get loud as Ryan Reaves had his first fight of the year, against Mathieu Olivier.
Unfortunately, despite his win, the crowd barely gave a response and for Matthews, it was pretty disheartening to watch.
While speaking to the media after the game, the captain expressed his desire for the fans at the Scotiabank Arena to be a bit louder.
"Love to see that. Would like a little more energy from the crowd after that. I thought it was a little quiet tonight, especially after two guys like that go at it. But it was a great moment for him..."
The lack of energy at the Scotiabank Arena is something that has been a problem for years at this point.
Overall, a lot of it has to do with the price of tickets. Only the rich can afford these tickets and typically, businessmen, doctors, and lawyers don't like to get loud at the games.
If the tickets were more affordable, you would get a brand of fan that is more eager to showcase enthusiasm.
It's interesting that Auston Matthews is choosing to point this out, but if you follow the Leafs, it is hard to disagree with him here.
