Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are being called out by head coach Craig Berube after another lackluster playoff performance.
Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost yet another important playoff game as they were trying to officially eliminate the Ottawa Senators from the NHL Playoffs.
However, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner had a Game 5 stinker that is getting fans incredibly riled up right about now and for good reason.
Of course, one person who is not impressed is head coach Craig Berube who has had to watch these superstars put in a lackluster effort during a crucial moment in the season.
Auston Matthews & Mitch Marner called out
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, now is not a good time. Thankfully, Berube is keeping a level head about things and is being realistic about what is happening.
He gave Matthews and Marner a wake-up call after the game on Tuesday, but he did present real solutions that this team can build off of.
"Not enough speed through the neutral zone with that line to create in the offensive zone off of that. They were just a little bit late on things and didn't create enough stoppages in the offensive zone. It was one-and-done too much for me with that line in the offensive zone."
With Game 6 going down on Thursday, there is no denying that Leafs Nation is going to be very anxious heading into the match.
Given this team's history with leads in the postseason, it wouldn't be surprising if the players are just as anxious. However, they must stay composed.
At this stage, it is unacceptable for this Leafs team to lose the series considering at one time, they were up 3-0. A loss would mean blowing things up.
The Leafs should be a Stanley Cup contender and fans want to see the second round. Hopefully, the players come motivated tomorrow night.
