Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand is up for a new contract at the end of the season, and the Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves in the mix.
The 37-year-old has numerous potential suitors, including the Toronto Maple Leafs. Meanwhile, he is in the midst of a Stanley Cup run that may just convince him to stay in South Florida.
Whatever the case may be, Marchand knows his worth. He is scoring goals at a rapid rate, and he understands just how valuable his services are to prospective teams.
Where is Brad Marchand going in Free Agency?
That said, it should come as no surprise that Marchand has some hefty contract demands, even despite his age. Quite frankly, the forward believes age is just a number.
According to
Chris Johnston, the former Boston Bruins captain is looking for a deal worth North of $8 million per season. Furthermore, he wants a four-year contract.
Bidding for Brad Marchand could go "north of 8 million", 4 year deal is likely
$32 million over four years for a Brad Marchand who will be 41 when the contract ends is pretty steep, and there are a lot of teams that would laugh at that number.
Quite frankly, laughter is exactly how the Toronto Maple Leafs should react to a salary like that. They are already the oldest team in the league. No team should pay that much to get older.
One has to wonder if the price is only this high because everyone is overreacting to the Cup Finals.
All things considered, it's hard to believe a 37-year-old could receive a salary like that when they aren't even a Top 10 player in the league.
